Description
1/16 Scale Zimmerit Set 42 x 15cm (16.5” x 5.9”) 3 pcs from Mato – MATMF3042
Zimmerit was a paste-like coating applied to German armored vehicles during World War II to prevent magnetic anti-tank mines from adhering to their surfaces. Developed by Zimmer & Co., this putty-like compound hardened to a rock-solid finish. The mixture included pine resin, benzene, barium sulfate, zinc sulfide, PVA glue, sawdust, fine gravel, and ochre, it created a rough, ridged texture. Introduced in 1943, Zimmerit was typically applied in factories but sometimes added in the field. While effective against magnetic mines, its use was discontinued in late 1944 due to concerns—largely unfounded—that it could ignite when hit. Vehicles such as the Panther, Tiger I, and StuG III often featured Zimmerit, making it a distinctive element of mid-war German armored vehicle appearance.
Mato’s Zimmerit set provides three large pieces to allow customization of any 1/16 tank, and can be adhered with contact cement or any number of high-strength adhesives.
