This is an optional XRAY 1/10 Formula Car Gear Differential Set. This XRAY self-designed, revolutionary, super-smooth gear diff for 1/10 formula cars is a direct replacement for the ball-differential; it is a complete set which requires no other extra parts and no extra adjustments.

Using the gear differential makes the car more stable and easier to drive, especially in high-traction conditions. The gear diff increases on-power steering which is needed on almost all types of tracks. A “must have” for every racer.

The complete gear differential set includes a composite case and cover, precision-molded internal satellite gears made from special XRAY-developed composite material, all ensuring long lifespan and super-smooth efficient operation. A super-strong hollow steel shaft ensures maximum reliability and strength.

The advantage of the gear diff is that it is maintenance-free. When the diff is correctly built, there is no need for maintenance for a very long time, no need for frequent oil changes, and no leakage due to a superior sealing system.

Fully assembled gear differential is 2g heavier then the ball differential.

Phillip Enriquez Wednesday, Nov 18 2020 (about 4 years ago) XRAY X1 1/10 Formula Car Gear Differential Set Perhaps the very best F1 diff out there. You can’t go wrong with this one, it’s compatible with most F1 cars. Very durable, just dont upgrade the steel shaft to a graphite one.
The only con is that you’re limited to xray specific spur gears, which are 76T, 80T, 84T, 88T & 92T in a 64 pitch only
Can be used on Asphalt with Oil of 100cst to 5,000cst

This is pricy at about 1/3 of what I paid for my Exotek r5, but I decoded to run it anyway.
The pros are it’s virtually maintenance free. It’s 14.5g lighter than the ball diff /axel that came with my r5.
Contrary to what another reviewer said, you can get a spur gear from Exotek in 48p for this diff.
Mine leaked a little. I’m running 1000cst silicone oil for med grip asphalt. Zero diff slipping. Yeah, you can’t adjust it trackside like a ball diff. You have to disassemble and chafe oil to adjust.
Only 4 stars due to high cost and it leaks a little. Parts are very well maid tho. It’s a quality part Peter Perry Verified Owner Friday, Jul 24 2020 (about 5 years ago) XRAY X1 1/10 Formula Car Gear Differential Set I have run the XRAY gear diff for a few practice sessions and I like it much better than the ball diffs that are standard on most F1 cars. The parts are extremely well made and fit together perfectly. The instructions are easy to understand and have a chart of recommended viscosities for the diff silicone fluid. The differential action is controlled by the fluid and not, as on a ball diff,the tension on a spring washer. The gear diff cannot slip, but still has the same diff action all the time. The only negative that I can see is if you want to change the diff action you need to take it apart and change the fluid. Also it’s not mentioned in the specs what size gear comes with the diff. Mine came with an 82 tooth 64P. That would be good to know before you buy. Many racers have told me that they “adjust” their ball diffs to the track conditions, but I’ve never been able to get that to work. The ball diffs either slip badly or are nearly locked up. With not much in between.
Overall 5 or 10 stars for the XRAY gear diff. Whichever scale is used. View all reviews
