Schumacher Pro Transmission Conversion. This optional transmission is intended for the Schumacher Top Cat and Cougar Classic. Using this will allow you to run a 6.5T motor in your chassis. Package includes slipper clutch, coarser pitched belts, pulleys and alloy washer carriers.

John Masden Verified Owner Tuesday, Mar 4 2025 (7 months ago) Schumacher Pro Transmission Conversion I have 3 of these and have never had an issue. The standard transmission is fine for loose surfaces, but on any modern high grip surface, the slipper clutch is pretty much a necessity. I ran the standard transmission with slicks on clay and the diff rings would break free from the outdrives (remember, they are just CA glued). It isn’t the acceleration force that causes it to happen, it is the back-torque applied when the car touches down after a large jump. I had this happen several times before I discovered the cause. The standard transmissions had never given me any trouble racing back in the day (early 90s) or on my slippy home track.
A cheaper alternative to the Pro transmission is the slipper clutch conversion from the Cougar 2 Works transmision. The Pro transmission includes lots of other improvements (carbide diff balls, stronger belt, alloy outdrives) and is well worth the cost, but if money is tight and you are running reasonable power….
On my home track, I actually prefer the standard transmission. It is in the kit already, so no extra cost, it is plenty strong for reasonable power levels, and it is fun to sling dirt and hang the tail out on corners (no slipper).
